American Legion Riders Post 104
Supported American Legion Post 158 in their Poker Run, November 4, 2006

The American Legion Riders of  Post 104 participated in a poker run sponsored and set up by Treasure Island American Legion Post 158, November 4, 2006. It was a fund raising event for the post and a roaring success.
The first stop on the run was American Legion Post 104 in Pinellas Park. American Legion Riders Director, Big Bob McGann, was there to greet the first riders before he began his own participation in the event. Riders from many post throughout Pinellas and Hillsborough county showed up as well as many other veteran's service clubs and posts.
The weather couldn't have been better. It was cool and clear throughout the day and perfect for riding. The riders left American Legion Post 104 for their next stop in the run, American Legion Post 14 in St. Petersburg. There they were greeted by Commander Ray Maya and staff.

After drawing our second card at Post 14 the riders relaxed and enjoyed the hospitality and cold beer at the canteen. American Legion Post 14 is located near Crescent Lake in St. Petersburg. The friendly staff and members always have a warm welcome for Legion Riders and we enjoyed their post.
Our next stop was AmVets Post 8 in St. Petersburg. The webmaster is a member of AmVets Post 8 as well as American Legion Post 104. The AmVets post welcomed the riders with some great sloppy joe sandwiches in their Tiki Bar. Post 8 is always a great stop in St. Petersburg. Their Tiki Bar is open air and a band was playing when we arrived. We drew our third cards there and enjoyed the friendly staff and members as well as their cold beer.  I encourage everyone to visit AmVets Post 8 often. They always have something goining on during the weekends and the membership is friendly and active in the veterans community. Thanks Post 8 for your support and we hope to see you again next year when we do it all over again.

Next stop in our Poker Run was American Legion Post 252 at Cross Bayou. Post 252 is a large post with an Olympic size swimming pool. It is one of the favorite watering holes of the American Legion Riders of Post 104. They also have great dinners often that draw Legionnaires from all over the Bay Area. We drew our fourth cards at Post 252 and settled in to socialize with the friends and comrades there.
The staff at Post 252 is always courteous and welcomes Legion Riders. Several times a year they have great events  take place there and they support several charities with their programs. The pool is open and refreshing. They have a huge grill outside where they have cookouts regularly. We always enjoy stopping by and visiting with our friends at Post 252 and we thank them for their participation in this Poker Run.
Our last stop was at American Legion Post 158 on Treasure Island. Post 158 put this Poker Run together. For many of us it was our first visit to Post 158, but after meeting the great folks at this island post I am sure we will visit them again.

The riders straggled into American Legion Post 158 in twos and threes as the afternoon worn on. It was our last stop and we drew our final cards there. It was cool and inviting in Post 158's canteen and a lot of the local people were there to greet us. After our run across Pinellas County the riders had worked up an appetite and thirst. The friendly staff at Post 158 took great care of us and the beer flowed.
American Legion Post 158 is in the heart of Treasure Island, Florida and close to the beaches and tourist areas of the Pinellas Gulf Coast. The members of  Post 158 had that casual beach living air about them. Shorts and loud shirts were abundant. The food was great and it was a good place to end our day.
Parking is at a premium on the beaches and the membership of Post 158 graceously made room for us to park our bikes. Soon the entire front of Post 158 was filled with shiny bikes and leather clad bikers.

Everyone had a great time and all arrived at their final destinations safely. We helped raise some money for a good cause and had a lot of fun while we were doing it. Thanks Post 158 for putting on this event and we look forward to the next time.
